urbanista is one of Germany's leading participatory urban development consultancies. In the fast-paced development of digital tools for participation, they had to make a choice: to invest in the development and management of their own online tool, or to go with a third-party service. With Maptionnaire as an option, the decision was easy: this online, map-based survey tool had everything they needed.
The City and County of Denver hosts a diverse community, it is economically strong and growing quickly. In order to facilitate growth while maintaining components that people feel positive about, Denver initiated a citywide planning effort to capture the goals and needs of current residents and the people who are coming tomorrow. In 2016, Denver launched Denveright, a two-year-long citywide effort for land use, mobility, and parks and recreation. This project has led to fruitful cooperation between the city’s Community Planning and Development department and Maptionnaire as one goal for the project was to increase opportunities for participation with online methods.
Stockholm is one of the fastest-growing cities in Europe. Stockholmers will need to undergo and adapt to significant urban changes for years to come. To sustainably deliver large-scale development projects around the city, Stockholm’s planners have become serious about adding new, digital tools to their public participation toolbox, such as an online public participation survey.
GIZ Kosovo in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development and the ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning are using Maptionnaire as a public engagement method to involve the residents of five Kosovar municipalities in the new spatial planning and land management project.
Helsinki’s City Planning Department used Maptionnaire to enable the city’s residents to contribute their ideas to the master planning process and influence what Helsinki will look like in the future. With Maptionnaire, our map-based questionnaire tool, the planners were able to engage 4,700 residents who marked more than 33,000 places of interest and their own ideas directly on the map.
The landscape architecture company gruppe F from Berlin used Maptionnaire as part of their project to develop a concept for re-using of the former barracks of Blankefelde-Mahlow, Germany. With the participation process they wanted to reach out to the groups that are difficult to reach with face-to-face methods.
Finland’s winter sports capital, Lahti, has made child-friendliness a strategic goal in the development of the city. A necessary precondition for achieving this has been to find ways for including the thoughts and experiences of children into the city’s work processes. At Lahti’s urban planning office, using Maptionnaire has proved to be the best practice.
