Public participation is an integral part of the transportation planning process. Community engagement ensures that the city’s decisions satisfy the needs of those who use the system daily. After all, who else is better qualified to co-design where to place a bus stop or a bike lane?
Strafica Ltd. is a Finnish transport engineering consulting company. One of the services they offer is helping to design safe infrastructure that people feel comfortable with. Submitting to such design processes requires effort and commitment, not only by the members of a transport company employing consulting services but also by affected residents. Strafica used Maptionnaire to involve the residents of Kouvola and Iitti in the creation of a safer transport infrastructure to support their everyday commute.
Cities-4-People is a multinational research and innovation project which aims to tackle today’s urban mobility challenges by the promotion of sustainable and people-oriented transportation solutions.
