Maptionnaire is turning 10 this year! 🎉 We decided to ask ten questions from the people who work hard to put the map in Maptionnaire. This week, you can learn more about who Asta is and what she does at Maptionnaire.

ps. Don’t forget to follow Asta’s takeover on Maptionnaire’s Instagram! (And pps. you can find the previous takeovers in the highlights.

1. Who are you and what do you do at Maptionnaire?

I’m Asta, I’m in charge of customer support, which includes both helping customers with their surveys and developing support materials. I also onboard new clients, consult, and turn survey data into accessible reports.

2. What is your typical work week like?

It’s usually a mixture of meetings, onboardings, helping clients with their surveys, and creating support and marketing materials. I have quite a bit of freedom in how I structure my work week, so I tend to try and make each day an even mix, as I find it is helpful in maintaining both focus and creativity (also, I like making to-do lists, which is easier if you have several smaller tasks instead of one big task). ✔️

3. What’s your favorite dish to have for lunch?

At the moment, dumplings or bibimbap with kimchi. Once the weather gets colder, pho.

4. Who is your role model?

I don’t think I have any.

5. What do you like most about your work at Maptionnaire?

The variety of tasks and constantly learning new things! Also the atmosphere in general – it’s easy to discuss pretty much anything and to suggest new ideas for further development, even if you aren’t the most senior member of the company. We have an excellent team and work really well together! However, I think my absolute favorite task has to be conducting final data analysis and reporting for clients (we offer that as part of our consulting services) – it’s fascinating to see the different types of information Maptionnaire is used to collect, and to help the client to create a final report that will realistically support future planning and development.

6. What’s your favorite feature in the Maptionnaire software? What do you like about it most?

This is a tough one, there are many favorites! I think the map questions are my favorite feature in general, and seeing the final map data presented in the analysis tool is fascinating. I also like that Maptionnaire is so strongly visual-based – in addition to the different types of map and image backgrounds, there are also many ways to incorporate images and video to the actual survey body (see some tips for creating visual questionnaires).

Finally, I want to mention the webpage creator, with which you can create websites with project-specific pages that are easy to navigate even if you aren’t a planning professional. I wish more clients used this for connecting more effectively with the public, as continuity and transparency are crucial aspects in dialogue. Public engagement is more than just surveys!

7. What’s your favorite hobby?

Browsing flea markets. You can never predict what you will find! It’s essentially treasure hunting. 🥇

8. What are your favorite places in cities? What do you like seeing / experiencing when you visit a new city?

This is going to sound a bit grim, but graveyards. Graveyards combine both local history and culture, and many of them are also lovely parks with wildlife and no big crowds.

(Editor's note: so we have two people in the Maptionnaire team who like visiting graveyards. Krista does too. Call that co-incidence?)

9. What would you like to see more in cities of the future? What is your dream city like?

Less cars and more greenery incorporated into buildings and streets; walkable, cyclable cities. My dream city would be built on many levels (including in the treetops) and would somehow allow every culture to flourish and co-exist.
